Gaming chips have been manufactured from a varied selection of materials in an almost infinite assortment of variations since the advent of wagering and the need to keep track of winnings. The most commonly used materials used at present in the creation of cutting-edge poker chips are plastic, clay, and acrylic composite. Clay chips, the oldest of the group, have been manufactured in the US since the late 19th century.

Back in the 19th century, poker players seemed to use any tiny object with value imaginable.
