Online High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the closing table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a big pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers in the world. While wagering on online poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus frequently buys in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes almost all of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full amount. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The best players in the world may be guys you have never heard of. Gus can be seen gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes Omaha and texas holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he back up his talents in cash rounds?
